The City of South Haven has an opening for a Lineworker A. This position will construct, repair, maintain and inspect overhead electrical power distribution lines. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Installing, connecting, inspecting, or disconnecting substation equipment.
  • Responding to customer call and complaints. Troubleshooting power outages and problems with electrical lines and wires.
  • Operating line trucks and equipment.
  • Performing switching operations.
  • Constructing and maintaining streetlight, traffic control, and information technology systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of Lineworker A apprentice program or equivalent. Two years of related work experience or equivalent training. Must have a valid State of Michigan driver’s license. Must obtain a valid State of Michigan Class A Commercial Driver’s License within nine (9) months of hire.

The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities (CBPU) is accepting applications for an Engineering Technician. This position is responsible for supporting Coldwater design and operations, preparing and reviewing engineering and technical drawings as well as supporting the Geographic Information System (GIS) department with data collection and entry. This individual must possess outstanding technical skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail.

Training and Experience:

  • High school diploma/GED equivalent required;
  • College degree in technical related field of study and/or equivalent work experience required, Civil or Electrical Engineering preferred;

  • Experience with municipal and utility construction practices and recordkeeping a plus; and
  • A valid driver’s license.

This is a full-time non-exempt position with hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday with a wage range of $19.00 – $26.00 per hour depending on qualifications. The City of Niles is accepting applications for an Assistant Utilities Manager. Under the general supervision of the Utilities Manager, oversees the day-to-day operations and personnel of the public utilities department. Provides technical engineering and high-level administrative support. Acts in capacity as Utilities Manager in their absence.

Required knowledge, skills, abilities and minimum qualifications include:

  • A Bachelor’s degree and/or public utilities certification’s or licensure, or professional engineering licensure in Michigan is required.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in engineering and/or utilities, including supervisory and administrative duties.
  • Thorough knowledge of the professional principles and practices of utility construction and maintenance techniques, and project planning and oversight.
  • Considerable knowledge of the safety practices and general methods, materials, and equipment used in utility design, construction, repair, and maintenance.
  • Considerable knowledge of professional public management techniques involved in budgeting, labor relations, public relations, contract negotiations, administration, and general project management.
  • Knowledge of the Federal, State, and local regulations governing utilities construction operations, management, and reporting requirements.
  • Skill in assembling and analyzing data, preparing comprehensive and accurate reports, and formulating policy and service recommendations.
  • Skill in effectively communicating ideas and concepts orally and in writing, and making presentations in public forums.
  • Skill in the use of office equipment and technology, including computers and related software, and the ability to master new technologies.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgement, initiative and resourcefulness when dealing with elected and appointed Officials, employees, project contractors, representatives of other governmental units, professional contacts, other City administrators, and the public.
  • Ability to critically assess situations, solve problems, work effectively under stress, within deadlines, and in emergency situations.
  • Ability to travel to other locations.
